Best Colleges for Men's Swimming

Swimming is a time-intensive sport in which athletes can spend 10 to 20 hours in the pool training in addition to gym time and workouts developed by their coaches. The swimming season lasts from October to February. In February swim and diving teams will compete in their respective conferences. Individual swimmers and divers who qualify then have the chance to compete in the NCAA championships in March. Many swim teams also offer diving, but not every school will have it.

Recruitment for swimming and diving athletes begins in high school. Division I teams generally have larger budgets and give away more athletic scholarships, as well as have more competitive swim teams. Division II schools are usually smaller public schools or private universities. Division III teams do not award athletic scholarships, though other types of financial assistance may be available to those who qualify.
